Career
Career
"Yellow roses have many different meanings, but I want to connect to the words caring and affection. I hope for a bright future for myself, studying more about the topics I am interested in and continuing the many hobbies that I have. I am still on the adventure to finding the perfect career for myself, which I have a lot of affection for and care about quite a bit. I want to achieve all of my personal goals and take several steps towards the dream careers that I have in mind."
Ever since I was young, I had always dreamed of pursuing a career in the medical field. When people asked me, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” my answer had always been that I wanted to become a doctor of some sort. From watching medical dramas, movies, and viewing many of my relatives carrying on their career as doctors, I had always thought that I wanted to take the same path and help out many people in the world when they have difficult times. Through several experiences and opportunities that I have had with specific organizations has given me a chance to build up towards the career that I am chasing.
The Academy of Science and Medicine is a program offered at my high school, Crescenta Valley that gives the students that are a part many chances to get involved in activities regarding science and medicine. Becoming the president of this organization for my class of 2023 as a sophomore, I myself have experienced many interesting field trips and presentations given by medical and scientific experts allowing me to get a better idea of where I should go with my career. I am excited for what the Academy develops into in the future and the many more opportunities that will be provided to myself and the many other students dreaming of careers in science or medicine.
The Saint Cecilia Youth Instrumental Ensemble is a special, small orchestra of about 15 middle and high school students that visit senior centers two times a year to perform happy, beautiful music for the seniors who do not have much liveliness in their daily routines. I believe that encountering people of many different age groups will help me in the future, and the fact that I can make people smile with the music that I create always brings happiness. If I happen to become a doctor after many years, I hope that I can cure seniors like the ones I have met from these visits to senior centers.
Tutoring has given me a whole different view on how younger students learn and grow in their academics. Working with students in elementary school and teaching them the academic basics that they would need to know for their future, I was able to experience teaching from a teacher’s point of view using several techniques and tools to help the children understand the concepts they were learning. Helping another age group like these young children allows me to grow tolerance when it is difficult to get the kids to focus and work diligently. I believe these opportunities to spend time with younger children will help me in the future in the career I hope to pursue
Not only have I tutored elementary school students going to school in America, but I also have the experience of tutoring in English for kids in Korea who have difficulty with the English subject. As I am Korean-American and fluent in both Korean and English, I can teach students who speak both languages very easily and it is actually very fun to teach from different perspectives.
Since I was a seventh grader in middle school, I have been a student reporter for the Korea Daily Times Newspaper. Every two weeks, I write an article about an event that occurred and report the findings to the editors of the newspaper. Through the edits I receive, I grow much more as a writer. Using my time to write benefits me in school work, and I believe it will definitely help me in the future when I need to write about several different topics. Also, eventually, if I am lucky enough, my articles are published in the Korea Daily Times Newspaper for everyone to read about.
